Nobody photographs the hours that made the difference — only the results.

Between these two photographs are thousands of hours nobody saw. Openings memorised past midnight. Losses studied until they turned into lessons. Long train journeys to tournament halls in cities she had never seen, then the walk to the board alone.

Chess gives a child from Indore nothing for free. Every rating point had to be taken across the board from someone fighting just as hard to keep it. She kept taking them — and while still a teenager she earned a title most players chase their entire lives and never hold: Woman FIDE Master.
